Winter is only half over, and I already find myself longing for the warmer days of spring. The kids and I are tired of snow clothes and a backyard full of ice. But I know we need to embrace this season, created by God in his infinite wisdom, chapped cheeks and all. Snuggling up and reading our favorite winter picture books is one way we revel in the beauty and joy this season brings. Here are a few wintry titles that I’m pulling out right now or putting on hold at the library:
Animals in Winter by Jenna Lee Gleisner
Katy and the Big Snow by Virginia Lee Burton
Learning to Ski with Mr. Magee by Chris Van Dusen
The Mitten by Jan Brett
Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner
Owl Moon by Jane Yolen
Pancakes for Breakfast by Tomie dePaola
Red Sled by Lita Judge
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost, illustrated by Susan Jeffers
The Story of Snow by Mark Cassino and Jon Nelson
White Snow Bright Snow by Alvin Tresselt
Winter is the Warmest Season by Lauren Stringer
The Winter Visitors by Karel Hayes
Happy winter and happy reading!
